Humming along with … May 6, 2010

“Something about the way you look tonight”, sung by Elton John and lyrics by Bernie Taupin. Video here.

.

—————– Previous hums —————–

“Ajj Din Chadheya” from the movie Love Aaj Kal. It snowed yesterday and as I watch the sun rise bright and golden on a world covered in white, this song comes to mind. Music by Pritam, lyrics by Irshad Kamil, sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. See lyrics here (has minor errors), high quality peek here, and download full audio here.

…….

“Soni De Nakhre” from the movie Partner. Very groovy, very dance floor. Music by SajidWajid and sung by Labh Janjua, Sneha Pant, and Wajid Ali (and Naresh?). Download the song here.

…….

“Hoton Se Chulo Tum” from the 1981 movie Prem Geet. Composed and sung by Jagjit Singh and lyrics by Indeevar. Lyrics here. Video here.

…….

“Isharian Te Nachna” by Malkit Singh. Song here. I love the way the song starts. Slow and melodious, it creeps into my skin and ripples to my heart. Vikas, a very dear friend, sent me the link and I can’t stop playing it. The last time I heard this number was at least 10 years ago. And this must be me, but the moment I played it, rushing came memories from childhood to college days.

…….

“Jaane Kaise Kab Kahan” from the 1982 Hindi movie Shakti. Sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar. Lyrics by Anand Bakshi and music by Pancham. This song (along with those from the movie Aradhana) are amongst my earliest recollections. I remember accompanying my sister and her college friends for the viewing; I was a mere 8 year old then! In the video my favourite part is at mark 3:36, where the director, Ramesh Sippy, makes an adept movement, which was first pointed out to me by my brother. I could write an essay on memories associated with this beautiful number, but this is not the place. Lyrics here.

…….

“Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se” from the 1978 Hindi Movie of the same name. Sung by Hemlata and music and lyrics by Ravindra Jain.  Lyrics here. Video here.

…….

“Tere Bina Jiya Jaye Na” from the 1978 Hindi movie Ghar. Sung by Lata Mangeshkar, music by Pancham, lyrics by Gulzar. That is a dream team! I “Discovered” this song when our driver, Mohan, played it during the Lahaul-Spiti trip (and then we replayed it till kingdom come!). Surprising that a song I had not heard until 2007, quickly became one of my all time faves. I dedicate this to my travel mate Vikas Kanwar.  Lyrics here. Video here.

…….

“Tujhse Naaraaz Nahin Zindagi” from the 1983 Hindi movie Masoom. Lyrics and song here. Video here.

…….

Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters”. See complete lyrics here. A shorter, good quality version is here. The Apocalyptica version is here. The Lucie Silvas version is here. This would quite easily be one of my all time favourites. One of those songs which I enjoy listening to irrespective of the mood I am in

…….

The Moldy Peaches’s “Anyone Else But You”. See complete lyrics here. Hear song here.

…….

James Otto’s “Just Got Started Lovin’ You”.  See complete lyrics here. See video here.

…….

Barry Louis Polisar’s “All I Want is You”, which was also used by Jason Reitman as the song in the opening credits of Juno. See complete lyrics here. Hear the song or see the video here. Read song trivia here.

…….

Clay Walker’s “The Chain of Love. See complete lyrics here. See song video here.
